Bills pausing accountability move closer to governor's desk
01/12/2016
Two bills, which aim to pause accountability rules for a year, passed their house of origin Tuesday.
HB 1003 (Rep. Bob Behning – R, Indianapolis) seeks to decouple ISTEP scores from teacher evaluations for 2014 – 15 , as well as release performance bonuses to teachers. SB 200 (Sen. Dennis Kruse – R, Auburn), seeks to hold schools and districts harmless on A – F accountability grades for 2014 – 15.
Both bills passed on 3rd readings without amendments. Each bill will go to the opposite house to restart the legislative process.
Legislative leaders have said they hope to have both bills passed and sent to the governor by the end of the month.
