Cari Whicker, sixth grade teacher and ISTA member, was elected vice chair of the State Board of Education today at its regular monthly meeting. Whicker teaches language arts and social studies at Riverview Middle School in Huntington. Prior to her appointment, Whicker served on the Teachers Retirement Board of Trustees (later renamed the Indiana Public Retirement System).

Sarah O’Brien, state board member and former vice chair, announced her resignation from the board last month, creating a vacancy.

The board elected Whicker unanimously.
