The ISTA Board of Directors established the Damon P. Moore Scholarship to be awarded to an ethnic-minority public high school senior who plans to pursue a teaching certificate. Moore, an African-American educator, served three terms as president of ISTA. During his tenure as president, Moore made significant contributions to the growth and development of ISTA. Statewide and nationally, Moore continues to be a positive role model for young minorities aspiring to enter the teaching profession.
A $1,000 award shall be granted each year and is renewable annually upon receipt of a request for renewal and a transcript, for three (3) additional years. The recipient must pursue a teaching license.
Only ethnic-minority individuals who are pursuing a teaching license may apply. An application form, school transcripts, letters of recommendation, and essay are part of the application process. Students are encouraged to review criteria for the other three ISTA scholarships and apply, if eligible.
Selection of Recipient
The Minority Affairs Committee will use the following criteria for selection:
- Academic achievement
- Leadership ability as expressed through co-curricular activities and community involvement
The recipient will be announced in May each year.
Applications must be received by March 1.
