UPDATED: Feedback needed on teacher evaluations
05/06/2015

Survey_Logo.jpgThe State Board of Education (SBOE) has unveiled a survey that is asking educators to provide their views and feedback on teacher evaluations and the implementation of our current evaluation system. According to the SBOE, your responses are completely anonymous with all data tabulated only in the aggregate. The New Teachers Project (TNTP) and SBOE will not be able to link responses to individual members. The estimated time to complete this survey is approximately 15-25 minutes.

Should you have the time and interest, please know that this may be a great opportunity for you to share your opinion with the SBOE and other policymakers regarding current laws that govern teacher evaluations.

This survey should provide the following:

(1)    the proper goals for evaluations

(2)    the improper uses of evaluation data

(3)    the level of input that teachers should have in developing the evaluation model

(4)    your confidence level in the evaluations/evaluators being fair and accurate

(5)    the rubrics and observations used

(6)    the appropriate frequency of observations

(7)    the appropriate level of involvement in student performance and learning (the percentage of student test scores being used as part of the teacher’s overall performance score)

(8)    the provision of appropriate tools, resources and information

(9)    how evaluations should be used (e.g. career advancement, curricular freedoms, increased salary, salary freezes, targeted professional development and assignment preferences).

The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m., May 10, 2015. UPDATE: The deadline has been extended to May 17, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.
