Indiana currently has more than 100 educators attending the National Education Association Representative Assembly (NEA RA). The conference wraps up today, but we had one member send us a brief guest post from the RA earlier in the week. Below is what she had to share.

Justice for all: Never forget, never give up…
This was the theme for the Human Civil Rights (HCR) awards dinner. This was my first HCR dinner and I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it was merely an opportunity to dress up and have a fancy dinner. I was wrong. The event was so much more.
Social justice and human rights issues affect our students and fellow educators, some of them every day. The HCR awards dinner recognizes people who have been activists and advocates for those less fortunate. To hear the recipients’ stories was an emotional, moving, and inspiring experience. I cannot recreate their words or their incredible acts of service, advocacy, and activism. However, what I can do is be inspired by them and learn from their example. Remember that everyone is important. That each of our students is important. That every educator is important. We can be idealistic enough and brave enough to make justice for all a reality.
