Happy Thanksgiving from ISTA President Meredith
11/26/2014

Every year during the Thanksgiving season, my family gathers for a meal and time together.  Inevitably, someone will ask us all to take turns sharing what we’re thankful for.  I usually say some very predictable but meaningful things to me—family, my health, friends, a roof over my head, and the work I am honored to do on behalf of our ISTA members.

I am so thankful for ISTA.  Our members are some of the hardest working individuals I have ever met. Our focus has been and continues to be advocating for children and all the public education employees who serve those children, whether it be in the classroom, on a bus, in the hallways, or on the playground.  It is a focus we all take very seriously.

I am thankful for the beauty of an association that first and foremost, works locally for its members.  There is no distance between the Association and its members, because the Association is right there, wherever our members are.  Our members’ representatives from locals all over the state take part in elections each year within our organization—elections that give us a board of directors and a leadership team that supports and governs our work as an organization.  Those elected members are your neighbors, your friends, your colleagues.

I am thankful that ISTA serves as a critical voice for public education.  Our members really care about the students we all serve and about each other.

Finally, I am thankful for YOU-our dedicated and faithful members, because without you there would be no ISTA. Thank you for your dedication to Indiana’s children and to the work of the Association.

Happy Thanksgiving.
