ISTA kicks off series of member forums in Crown Point
09/23/2014

Lets_talk.pngAs announced earlier this month, ISTA is hosting a series of ten member forums in regions around the state of Indiana. The forums are intended to be a conversation with members about the multitude of issues affecting public education. Members are also given an overview of ISTA’s proposed legislative program.

The first stop in the member forum series was in Crown Point this evening.

A very engaged and lively audience heard from ISTA President Teresa Meredith on the importance of being an active member on behalf of their students and their profession. Staff from ISTA Government Relations presented a sampling of issues ISTA hopes to address in the upcoming legislative session. Members then heard from State Representative Clyde Kersey on his perspective of the state legislature as a former public school teacher.

The night was wrapped up with a conversation among members ranging from their successes in the classroom and frustrations with recent state involvement in making teaching more difficult, rather than helpful for students.

The next ISTA member forum will take place in New Albany on September 29. For more info and to RSVP, click here.
