ISTA statement in response to Gov. Pence announcement
10/27/2015

In response to Gov. Pence’s announcement stating he is working with legislative leadership to ensure teachers are not penalized for the anticipated “decline” in ISTEP scores, ISTA president Teresa Meredith released the following statement:

“We are pleased to learn that Gov. Pence is finally working with legislators to make sure our hard-working teachers are not penalized by expected negative consequences resulting from Indiana’s transition to new academic standards and a new ISTEP test. For more than a year, ISTA has been calling for a pause to ensure commonsense fairness for teachers and schools.

We look forward to learning the specifics of this legislative fix. Because of impending legal consequences brought on by current law, ISTA anticipates this legislation being addressed on Organization Day, November 17.”
