Newly restructured state board meets at Purdue
06/03/2015

IMG_20150603_095746117.jpgAn overhauled State Board of Education met Wednesday at Purdue University for the first time since being restructured by the General Assembly this year. The board now consists of five new members appointed by the governor, speaker of the House and Senate pro tempore.

The board’s unusually mild agenda entailed electing members to various work committees, including the newly formed School Data Reporting Committee. After prodding for volunteers, newly appointed member Lee Ann Kwiatkowski was nominated and elected.

Most discussion from members occurred while passing resolutions honoring former board members and retiring executive director, Robert Guffin.

The board meeting was notable for the fact that it was smoothly run and members were cordial.

The board’s next meeting is shaping up to be heavier as members will elect a board vice president and secretary, also new following this session.
