Petition: Make an adequately and equitably supported public school education for students our highest priority once again!
10/10/2014

We received a message from long-time friend of public education and former Superintendent Tony Lux about a petition he is urging supporters to sign. We couldn’t agree more with Superintendent Lux. It’s time to make fully-funding our public schools the top priority for the Governor and legislature.

Tony’s message is below. The petition can be found here.

As we enter the November election and edge nearer to the next Legislative Biennium, I, along with a Northwest Indiana public education support group, have started an effort to demonstrate to our government leaders that 1.3 million voters who elected Glenda Ritz are adamant in their belief that public schools must again become the top education priority in Indiana.

The intent is to unite and rally all supporters of public school education - rural, suburban, and urban - behind a petition to demand that “Our Public Schools Deserve Better”! The demeaning of public school education must end.  We must stop the financial bleeding of public school funds that are being diminished by continuing and expanding tax reductions and tax caps.  We must stop the financial bleeding of public school funds that are being diverted to funding the expansion of Charter Schools and private school vouchers.  We must begin to restore adequate and equitable funding for all public schools.

Here is what has been started in Northwest Indiana.  I am asking you and your organization to endorse and publicize a concerted, statewide effort to spread this petition.  With a consolidated and unified demonstration for public school education from across this State, public school education proponents can bring a huge bargaining chip to the halls of discourse in our State Legislature.  The voices of 1.3 million voters must be heard from again.
